J. Kate Stickles is a member of the Bankruptcy and Corporate Restructuring Department and is based in the Firm’s Delaware office. Kate concentrates her practice in the area of corporate bankruptcy, with particular experience representing debtors, official committees, examiners and post-confirmation trustees in all aspects of chapter 11 proceedings, including bankruptcy litigation and appeals.

In 2020, Kate was selected as a Lawdragon 500 Leading U.S. Bankruptcy & Restructuring Lawyer. Kate has received a band ranking by Chambers USA since 2010 and has been described by clients as an “exceptionally responsive, careful, and thoughtful” attorney, “a great problem-solver” and “a master of the process in bankruptcy.” Kate has also been selected by her peers for inclusion in the prestigious 2010-2019 editions of Best Lawyers in America in the area of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law and Best Lawyers Business Edition 2017-2019: Women in Law. Kate has served as primary or Delaware co-counsel to corporate debtors in a variety of industries, including automotive, gaming, healthcare, manufacturing and distribution, media, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications, in some of Delaware’s most significant bankruptcy cases. Select chapter 11 debtor engagements include: Hilltop Energy, Maremont Corporation, Fresh & Easy, Egenix, Savient Pharmaceuticals, Yarway Corporation, Tribune Company, Barzel Industries, Owens Corning, Fruit of the Loom, Noma Company, Devon Mobile Communications, Fedders North America, BMJ Medical Management, and Physician Health Corporation.

Kate’s recent official committee representations include: The NORDAM Group, M&G USA Corporation, Maxus Energy Corporation, MIG LLC, and iGPS Company LLC.

Kate has published in, and served as a contributing editor for, the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal. She has also published in The Americas Restructuring and Insolvency Guide, American Bankruptcy Institute Bankruptcy Litigation Committee Newsletter, American Bankruptcy Institute Commercial Fraud Committee Newsletter and the ABA Business Bankruptcy Committee Newsletter. She also contributed to the first edition of the Bankruptcy Deadline Checklist.

Kate is active in the Bankruptcy Section of the Delaware State Bar Association and has previously served the group in a number of leadership roles including Chair, Vice Chair Commercial Bankruptcy and Secretary and Co-Chair of the Bankruptcy Section, CLE/Publications Committee and the Delaware Views from the Bankruptcy Bench and Bar Steering Committee.

She is a member, and past Director at Large, of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC). She has also served as the Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary of the IWIRC Delaware Network and currently serves on the Community Service, Social and Newsletter Committees. She is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and a Master of the Delaware Bankruptcy American Inn of Court.

Kate earned her B.A. in political science and communications from Western Maryland College and her J. D. from Temple University School of Law.
